M.S. McDowell reminisces about his contacts with Pennsylvania State College president George Washington Atherton, first as a student and later as staff of the Agricultural Experiment Station. He describes the suspension of the Class of 1892 in its freshman year, May 1889; Atherton's personality; and Atherton's request that McDowell monitor the pertinent legislative bills in Harrisburg for him. McDowell comments on Edwin Erle Sparks's role in popularizing Penn State. He remembers John M. Thomas as an honest and straight-forward person.
